Welcome to UCT Basketball club.
The basketball club is maily comprised of the following three four structures;
1. Basketball Teams
The university has 4 basketball teams. These are first and second teams for both men and women. The first teams represent the university in the anual USSA games that are held at different institutions every year, they also participate in the WPBA league.
The mens second team only participates in the WPBA league, and the second team ladies team serves mostly as a development team for the first team. They do however have a few friendlies later on in the year.
2. Basketball Club
This is the official basketball club for basketball in the university, the clubs subscription fee for 2013 is R400 and joining the club is mandatory for all basketball first and second team players. The club can be also joined by any basketball fanatic who loves the game, the club has a few social events which include a braai, and we are planning on introducing basketball game screenings this year.
3. Basketball Committee.
The basketball committee is a minor governing body of basketball at UCT, their main responsibility is participating in the running of basketball at UCT and represent the student in every decision made. The committee also hosts all the events affiliated with the basketball club. The committee is elected every year from current club members.
Hope being part of the basketball club is going to be an awesome experience, if you are not a serious basketball player who intends on playing for our first and second teams. Feel free to join one of the participating teams in the internal league to get some low key basketball, or you can come to the sports center on Friday afternoons for some pick up games.
