Internal League

The UCT Basketball Internal league is a basketball league intended for UCT students who want to play good structured basketball games that are less formal but not as demanding as the UCT first and second teams. It is less formal but all the rules of the game are followed and officials are provided.

2. Smuts Hall



Games Structure.

  1. Games will be played in 20 minute halves
  2. Each half will be running time and only the last 2 minutes of each half will the clock be stopped. But if a team is leading by 20 or more points the last 2 minutes will be running time.
  3. Each team get one 60 second time-out per half and time-outs do not carry over.
  4. Team foul rule is applied, on the 9th team foul, that particular team is on the bonus and every foul is a shooting.
  5. Every team is required to have a kit with numbers
  6. Personal fouls will be noted, and a player will be ejected from the game on his 6th personal foul.
League rules.
1. Team is to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled game time. If a team is late for whichever reason they should call the league coordinator on 0737586376, and he will make a plan for them IF POSSIBLE, Otherwise that team will forfeit the game. 

2. Teams are to respect officials at all times. 

3. No jewellery to be worn during games, i.e. Necklaces, bracelets nose rings and earrings. If one has a piercing or some form of jewellery that they cannot remove they can cover it up with band aid. Rubber bands do not count as jewellery and can be worn during games. (This is for the safety of all players on the court) 

4. Team kits are compulsory, please inform the league coordinator of your residence color to make sure no two reses have the same colour kits. 

5. Any team that forfeits 3 games will be ejected from the league.

6. No team must play anybody that is not on their team list, if you do not have five players on the court then you forfeit the game.  

 7. All FIBA basketball rules apply!

8. NO TEAM SHALL PLAY A PERSON WHO IS NOT REGISTERED TO THAT TEAM, if you do not have 5 players at the start of the game its an automatic forfeit.

9. A team is allowed to register eighteen (18) players, but only twelve (12) can play in any particular game.
 
10. A team is allowed to register both male and female players.

11. Team captains are to make sure that the R 800 participation fee is paid in full on or before the first league fixture. Failure to do so will result in a team not allowed to participate in the league and thus forfeit games.

12. If a team has a complaint/issue about a particular game or official they should send a written complaint to the internal league coordinator on sallas07@yahoo.com. The basketball committee will then look at the complaint and address it accordingly.

The UCT Basketball committee reserves the right to amend these rules at any time, when need be.
